8 Rituals For A Minimalist Morning Routine That Will Improve Your Start Into The Day

1. Eliminate Your Alarm(s)
Most people are using an alarm to wake up every morning. This can be on the smartphone or as a classy alarm. This is a great invention, don't get me wrong. But they have one big disadvantage: They are eventually waking you up during your sleep cycles. Sleep cycles are the time of your sleep when you are sleeping the deepest. And now there is this problem because an alarm is not really caring about your sleep cycles, he's just waking you up at a specific time you have set the night before. So what we should try instead is to wake up without the use of an alarm.
Snoozing your alarm or setting multiple alarms is the worst thing you can do to your body, so stop that immediately!
What you can do to get used to waking up without an alarm?
Go to sleep & to bed always at the same time - Consistency is key. Your internal clock in your body will wake you up naturally, this is why sleep cycles are really important. If you wake up during a sleep cycle you will feel tired and exhausted. Don't darken your room with blinds or curtains, we need natural light and the sun will wake you up. Add rituals to your morning and night to reinforce your sleeping routine for a better quality of sleep. Eat the right food and do some sports - this will improve your sleep quality massively. Set an alarm, but just as a fallback.
With time your body will be on top of this consistency and you will wake up every day at the same time, without any need of an alarm.
2. Drink Water After Waking Up
The body loses according to studies about 1-2 liters or 0.25-0.5 gallons of water every night. So the first thing you should do after waking up is to refill your body with 1l/0.25 gallons of freshwater. This will help you get hydrated again and you will feel automatically fitter.
3. No Smartphone Usage
Using a smartphone in the morning will bomb you immediately with new messages & notifications which increases stress and anxiety. All these other people's opinions or thoughts, all the advertising on social media, will just take your attention and focus away from yourself. But in the morning the difference should be the case: You should have the focus on yourself, your thoughts, and your goals. Checking social media will drastically decrease this attention and will keep you in this unreal bubble of superficial stuff you don't need in your morning.
4. Meditation helps to stay calm
Meditation lets you think about nothing and focus on nothing else than yourself. With meditation, you are focussing on your mind, so that you are disconnecting from the world around you. You are getting yourself into a state of calm and focus, that is relieving stress. Also, this focus will stay during your day, that's why this is a perfect exercise for your morning routine.

5. Start With Affirmations
Affirmation is an exercise for your mind to say out loud positive reminders or personal statements that are used to encourage and motivate yourself. They can help a lot in reaching your goals and staying positive.
The power of positive thoughts is a really valuable tool to keep up to your dreams and goals in life.
6. Move Yourself
Doing sports in the morning offers you tons of benefits. The early bird catches the worm. Doing sports in the morning and doing exercises will give your more energy during your day, better sleep, and a fitter body. But to go jogging, or go to the gym can be very hard in the morning. Especially if you are not a morning person. That's why it's very important to choose a sport that suits you. Also, you should have lots of fun performing this sport. This can be swimming, running, yoga, going for a walk, you name it...
7. Cold Showers
Having a cold shower instead of a hot one will give you a lot of positive aspects:
Cold showers wake you up
Increases calorie consumption
Stimulates your fat metabolism
Makes you stronger mentally
Strengths your immune system

Attention: You should only shower cold if you are in good health condition. In case you are sick or having a weak immune system, this might be not the right thing for you and can be dangerous.
8. Educate & Learn Something New
After you have done all these physical activities, next to meditation it's time to also bring your brain into the game and learn something new.
Your brain and mind are in the best state to learn and educate in the morning. Therefore you have to take advantage of that. Read a book, listen to an audiobook or podcast, watch an online course, or learn a new language. There are plenty of other examples you can do to learn something new. I am sure you already have others in mind.
